15-year-old Oshawa student on a class trip to China is being held in Hong Kong after she was accused of pocketing a pair of designer sunglasses from an airport kiosk.
Security cameras supposedly captured the incident.
Students were getting ready to board the plane when police chased the teen down. Administrators had hoped to resolve the issue there, but the officers would not let her go.
One student who watched the officials cancel her classmate's ticket said it was terrifying and that many in the group were crying.
The flight was delayed as Chinese officers searched the rest of the class.
Terrified of the Hong Kong Police (They can't seem to differentiate them and the PLA for some reason)? Geez, at least they don't taser people to death. Oh, I love it how everyone seems to think Hong Kong is part of some oppressive communist police state, although HK uses the same justice system as in Canada. Who said it's just Americans who are ignorant of the world?
School board officials and the girl's parents have been in contact with the Canadian consulate in Hong Kong.
"If all goes well, they will fine her and get her on her way. Hopefully she'll be on a plane by Thursday," said her mother, who will fly to Hong Kong with her husband tomorrow night if the hearing does not go well.
With so many teens going abroad on class trips, the teen's father has some advice: thoroughly warn them the rules are not the same.
"She obviously had no idea of the ramifications or she wouldn't have done it," he said. "It's like a capital offence. She's a teenager. She really is a good kid."
Calling the Canadian consulate? Talk about overreaction man. This article was front page news in Canada. I love it how Canadians distance themselves from Americans by claiming to be so open-minded when they can be just as retarded. I remember my crazy gweimui friend in Vancouver telling me how all her friends pleaded her to travel in Europe, well because "Asia? Is it safe there? Isn't that place full of terrorists and gangsters". Yes of course, we azns are out to chop up every damn white person there and stuff them into Hello Kitty dolls. Later this same girl told me that the most dangerous place she's been is in Surrey (20 minute drive from her house)

"It was a bone-headed play in the wrong country," the father said. "If it had happened at Wal-Mart in Oshawa, no one would have cared but life is full of learning experiences."
The father added his daughter was treated "very well."
The student is expected to arrive home on Wednesday.
This was the best part. Great going man. Now we see where your daughter gets her traits from. Since it is perfectly OK to shoplift from Walmarts in Canada, I guess I will do the same next time I'm in your country?
The canuck bimbo should be glad she got off so easily after stealing items worth over $2000.
