The whole Tibet problem

I will keep this very brief since it is clearly a complicated issue with so many viewpoints. So what is going on? China claims Tibet is their territory and that the Dalai Lama is masterminding Tibetan rioters to overthrow Han rule. The Dalai Lama claims he has nothing to do with the unrest and that he only supports more autonomy for Tibet but full outright independence. Western Media focuses on the suppression of Tibetan monks. Chinese media claims that the western protrayal of the events are all biased and overly critical of China.

So who's right? Unlike Tiananmen (everyone know's I'm 100% for the students) I find it quite difficult to take sides in this case. When the riots started all western and Hong Kong media were kicked out of Tibet. Wow, OK very smart move, CCP. Really. And you complain that our media is biased? I understand it is very true that some depictions in Western media has been biased, but isn't it mainly due to a lack of details of the real situation? Thanks to the CCP, China has made it appear to the world that it is hiding something. The only western reporter to not have been expelled was James Miles and this was his account of the events. So clearly, Western media can be biased, but only 1 western reporter was actually allowed in Tibet. Without the whole truth, most would assume the worst.

China keeps blaming the Dalai Lama. Why is that? They can't find a better scapegoat? But even he has in the past few years not called for outright independence. An indepedent Tibet at this time would not be good for its economy or well being. He wants more autonomy, similar to a Hong Kong style SAR for Tibet. I might even go as far as saying that Tibet deserves it more than Hong Kong. Tibet does have its own unique culture, language, heritage and at one time it's own empire. Hong Kong only exists today becase of colonialism.

Now, the next point I wanted to get to. Free Tibetan activists. It seems like almost all of those making the outcry for Tibet are from the Americas, Australia, or Europe. Wait a second, didn't North American and Australia once have native populations with their own distinct culture and language. I wonder where they all went! Hmmm? Wasn't Hong Kong itself a subordinate to a certain European power for over 150 years? And to paint the Chinese evil when their own governments had less than appealing track records is a tad bit hypocritical, isn't it? Maybe the states could start with reinstating the King of Hawaii.

So fuck those Tibet rioters for killing innocent Han Chinese civillians, the CCP for it's heavy handed treatment of the Tibetan people, hypocrites on both sides, media bias... How's that people?
